The challenge: Produce a single-person interactive that explains the comedic art of the 3-panel cartoon strip.

The Solution:Teach the art of cartoon comedy by assuming the role of a cartoonist and creating a 3-strip cartoon panel.  Throughout this activity, the visitor learns to draw Charlie Brown, define their own character’s personality traits, and then draw that character into their final cartoon strip.

The Results

This is one of my favorite produced projects. Museum pieces can often be a passive experience—you are told how something was done and what it means.

By placing the visitor into the mind of a cartoonist, they learn how important character is to comedy.  They begin to understand how successful cartoons have characters that have strong personality traits and that a punchline’s success (or failure) only works if supported by that character.
